What brings people to Byron Private for depression treatment

Many people who come to Byron Private have been managing depression for a long time. Medication has helped to a point. Therapy has provided some relief. But the ability to function day to day - at work, in relationships, with basic routines - remains affected.

Residential depression treatment works differently. Removing yourself from your usual environment, with a consistent clinical team and structured daily program, creates conditions for recovery that are hard to replicate in weekly sessions.

For people looking for depression therapy or a structured treatment program, Byron Private provides residential care with an onsite psychiatrist from week one.

The setting is part of the program

Byron Private is set in the Byron Bay hinterland, 10 minutes from Byron Bay, removed from the routines and pressures of daily life. The natural environment is part of how the program works: daily structure includes beach trips, yoga, and eco-therapy alongside clinical sessions.

With a maximum of 12 residents at any time, the program is deliberately small. The peer group does therapeutic work alongside the clinical team. The community is part of the treatment model.

Stepping out of your usual environment creates space that's difficult to access in day-to-day life, and it's why residential treatment works differently to outpatient support.

Support beyond the residential program

Recovery does not end when the residential program does. Each resident works with the clinical team during their stay to build a personalised 12-month aftercare plan that reflects their specific history, goals, and circumstances.

After discharge, regular clinical check-ins provide ongoing support through the transition back to daily life. The plan is built to be practical, not aspirational.
